Reality is not negotiable (peak oil)
In an oft-repeated quote, Dick Cheney said that the American way of life is not negotiable. Searching for a reference, I found the exact quote attributed to both Dick Cheney in 2001 and George H. W. Bush in 1992. (And the variant, "Our lifestyle is not negotiable" was also attributed to both.) They are, of course, both wrong. A way of life is negotiable; reality is not. And I can't see reality allowing the American way of life to be so wasteful and arrogant in two decades as it is now. I'm worried that it is a coin-flip as to whether our way of life will be seriously impacted in just the next two years. With oil prices at a record high, many other people are worrying too. Some are seriously talking about a collapse of the global economy. Others just see major changes. On the positive side, these high oil prices are already cutting CO2 emissions.
